Former senior-level U.S. government international conflict experts call for immediate action to address significantly worsening conflict dynamics in the United States (Alliance for Peacebuilding, June 1, 2020) –

Eight former senior conflict experts at USAID and State issued a signed statement on June 1, 2020 in Medium.com (which was reposted in the New York Times and Washington Post). The thrust of the statement is to call on federal and state governments to immediately de-escalate tensions in America arising from the impacts of long-standing structural racism. The signatories all contributed to the building of USAID’s Office of Conflict Management and Mitigation at USAID and the development of the conflict analysis framework designed to understand the dynamics that heighten the risk of violence and identify opportunities to transform conflict toward peace, justice and resilience. The signers (all previously serving in USAID’s Office of Conflict Management and Mitigation) include Elisabeth Dallas, Liz Hume, Sana Hussain, Elisabeth Kvitashvili, Neil Levine, Rachel Locke, and Sharon Morris.
