    Team:

We have reached an important milestone in the Transformation of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). On June 24, 2019, our colleagues on Capitol Hill released all holds on the Congressional Notification for the Bureau for Development, Democracy, and Innovation (DDI).

DDI will serve as a pinnacle for field support, as well as a one-stop shop across several sectors and cross-cutting areas. With DDI’s global perspective, the Agency will anticipate and respond to evolving trends and issues, while advancing the Journey to Self-Reliance. The Bureau will help create a world of inclusive, equitable, and prosperous societies, driven by our talented staff around the world.

We reached this significant milestone in great part because of the Bureau Planning Team and the many staff who participated in the design and planning of DDI through workstreams, surveys, planning sessions, and many other avenues. Specifically, I want to thank the Project Manager, Katie Qutub, for getting us to this place. The DDI Bureau Planning Team, led by Carrie Thompson, Alma Golden, Karl Fickenscher, Tim Meisburger, and Chris Burns, will continue to oversee the Bureau Design Process.

As DDI is a key integrator for the Agency, we are working to realize many of the benefits of the new Bureau before we establish it formally. In the coming weeks, we will finally create a one-stop shop for support on the Private-Sector Engagement Policy when we combine the USAID Global Innovation Lab’s Center for Transformational Partnerships with the Office for Private Capital and Microenterprise of the Bureau for Economic Growth, Education, and the Environment.

Your continued input will be critical as we stand up the DDI Bureau, and the rest of the new and revamped Bureaus at USAID. In the meantime, I am committed to working with our Congressional colleagues to lift all remaining holds. You can find more information on the Transformation’s MyUSAID page here.

Thank you for your support and commitment as we work to strengthen the Agency and achieve greater measurable development impact around the world.

    Sincerely,

    Mark Green
