USAID Call for UAA Member Assistance for Afghan FSNs
USAID invites interested UAA members to join the Agency in helping ease the transition of our Afghan FSN colleagues to find employment after they reach their final destination in the United States. If interested, we encourage you to read the message below from Michele Sumilas, Assistant to Administrator Powell, for more information and to fill out the user-friendly Google Form provided in the USAID message.
Dear USAID Alumni:
For the last few weeks, a dedicated team of USAID staff have been working around the clock to provide critical support to approximately 150 USAID Afghan locally-employed staff who were evacuated from Afghanistan and are now temporarily residing at U.S. military bases in the United States and around the world.
Our Afghan colleagues, some of whom have worked with USAID for decades, need our help as they begin the transition to life in the United States. USAID is committed to securing full onward employment for our FSNs, whether at USAID or elsewhere. To ease their transition as much as possible, we are planning to offer our Afghan colleagues critical, professional life skills such as interview preparation and resume writing. These skills will prove invaluable, particularly for those Afghans who will need to find work after reaching their final destination in the United States.
We would like to invite the Alumni Association to join us in this effort. We are looking for volunteers to provide one-on-one support and mentorship to one or several of our Afghan colleagues while they are moving through the resettlement process. We hope to begin matching volunteers potentially as soon as October, with additional services and support to be rolled out in phases as our colleagues are settled throughout the U.S. These services will be entirely voluntary for our FSNs, and depending on the number of volunteers and the level of interest from our Afghan colleagues, we may not be able to match every volunteer with an FSN.
If you are interested in helping our fellow FSN colleagues, please take less than one minute to fill out this easy, user-friendly Google Form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScmks4L1gKEqcNGuWZva9cGki5QE8E3qOMRYseru1QEvmqZ7Q/viewform).
If you have any questions, please contact USAID/PPL’s Rachel Leeds (firstname.lastname@example.org) and USAID/Afghanistan’s Nicholas Acosta (email@example.com).
Thank you in advance for helping us make a lasting difference!
